Find a last name that goes with your first name
Type a first name into Fixed first name and press Generate names. Every result pairs your first name with a real surname and gives the pair a flow score out of 10. Tap a card to see why it scored the way it did. Use the filters to narrow the surnames by origin, rarity, first letter or length.
How the flow score works
The score looks at how the two names sound together, the same things people notice when they say a name out loud:
- Rhythm: names with different numbers of syllables score higher. Two one-syllable names can sound abrupt.
- Length: more than six syllables in total is long to say.
- The join: the same consonant at the join (like Tom Morgan) or a vowel running into a vowel (like Emma Adams) can blur together.
- Rhymes: names that end the same way (like Jason Mason) lose points.
- Initials: matching initials (like Peter Parker) get a small bonus for being catchy.
It’s a guide, not a rule. Some great names break all of these.
